Mercy Hospice (MH) is the provider of specialist palliative care services to the people of the Auckland District Health Board area. MH has a 13-bed inpatient unit and a community nursing team providing patient centred palliative care to approximately 1200 people. MH is known for providing fabulous working conditions for staff. We are currently looking for a Healthcare Assistant to join our values-based nursing team, within our challenging and rewarding environment.

The successful applicant will be responsible for assisting nursing colleagues to provide personal care to patients. Ensuring meals and refreshments are provided for patients in the IPU. Communicating to the nursing and medical staff of any physical, psychosocial/spiritual needs seen during patient cares. Ensuring nursing equipment and resources are available for staff to use. Identifying potential health and safety hazards and managing any risks.

The successful applicant will have ideally experience working as a Health Care Assistant - either in palliative care, general medicine/surgery or aged care. Excellent communication skills and a ‘can do’ attitude. This is a permanent position, working 0.8FTE (64 hours per fortnight). Mercy Hospice operates a 7 day a week, 24 hours a day IPU service and as such applicants must be available to work rostered shifts.
