Financial Controller Kings Recruitment Ltd location Auckland.

My client, based in East Tamaki, is a large government funded Media organisation, that is in an exciting phase of growth and transformation. On their behalf, we are seeking a talented and experienced Financial Controller, who will lead their Finance and Data Insights team, while the current senior manager leads the delivery of a key transformation project.

This role will be offered as a contract for a period of approximately 3 months, which potentially may be extended. This is a senior role, whereby you be responsible for the day to day performance of the team, as well as being a trusted advisor to the organisation.

The position can be broken down into the following key areas of responsibility leading the finance and data insights teams, ensuring the teams core responsibilities are achieved. Protecting and preserving the critical assets of the organisation, including its data, ensuring compliance and accurate reporting on the financial position and operations. Leading the interim and final 2019/20 external audit, ensuring key activities are delivered. Be a trusted strategic advisor, ensuring alignment with the business and finance strategies to support the achievement of priority outcomes.

More specifically demonstrate and provide motivational leadership for the Finance and Data Insights functions. Providing financial modelling to support strategic and operational planning. Monitor the financial implications of COVID-19 on both the 2019/20 financial year and beyond, delivering insights and recommendations to the Senior Leadership Team.

Ensuring key strategic documents are revised, prepared and submitted to agreed timeframes. Ensuring the key insights from all data, including financial data, drives insight into action that is aligned with strategic outcomes.

Leading the Finance team to ensure the delivery of key financial management functions such as ensuring timely and meaningful reporting of financial targets, identification of trends, risks & opportunities, and implementation of remedial action. Preparation of monthly management reporting pack. Preparation of quarterly external reporting.

Effective cash management, including the approval of payment runs, regular cash flow forecasting, etc. Ensuring all statutory, taxation and compliance obligations are met. Monthly financial performance data is verified and accurate. Appropriate board papers are prepared within agreed timeframes. Ensuring cash flow effectively managed. Leading the Data Insights team, to ensure the delivery of key data insights team on the delivery of daily, weekly, monthly reporting including appropriate recommendations for action.

Lead the interim and final 2019/20 external audit, ensuring key activities are delivered, including day-to-day management of the interim and final audit processes, ensuring the right resources are allocated to key activities at the right time. Being the key contact for the external auditors, to engage with during the audit process. Overseeing the audit preparation workstream, ensuring activities are completed as per agreed timeframes.

Key skills / experience required demonstrates strategic leadership experience from a similar Financial Controllers position. Extensive financial management, reporting skills and experience. Extensive strategic management, accounting skills and experience. Analytical skills, including extensive financial modelling experience.

Comprehensive understanding of and ability to conduct SWOT analysis. Strong technology and software applications ability and knowledge. Comprehensive understanding of governance and board reporting. Sound legislative, statutory and taxation and compliance knowledge. Extensive audit experience.

Solutions-focused approach and ways of working. Focused on Implementing strategies to ensure continued improvement. Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate with others Flexible and agile working approach. Ability to look at the big picture. Desire to immerse themselves in a company’s culture, promotes it and adds value.

Qualifications desired Commerce degree or equivalent. CA or CPA. We are actively working on this role throughout the COVID Stages 3 and 4. We can utilise phone and video arrangements to interview.
