Lead with strength and Mana to deliver on strategy, ensuring the social, cultural, Taiao and aspirations are developed and met. Based in Wairarapa, reporting through to the Group CEO. Operationalise and lead strategy. Balance commercial viability with cultural and spiritual integrity.

Who are we Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairarapa Tāmaki nui-a-Rua Settlement Trust (NKKWTNR) is a Post Settlement Governance Entity (PSGE) who have recently settled with the Crown for historical Te Tiriti o Waitangi breaches. As part of this settlement Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairarapa Tāmaki nui-a-Rua settlement redress includes a substantial treaty settlement of cultural redress, financial redress, commercial redress and key relationships with government agencies through He Kawenata Hou. Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairarapa Iwi Development Trust is a subsidiary of NKKWTNR. The Iwi Development Trust is set to assist in the social development and betterment of uri of Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairarapa.

A bit of about the role itself, responsibilities, and dutiesthe purpose of this position is to lead and implement the objectives of Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairarapa Tāmaki-nui-a-Rua Settlement Trust as set out in the strategic plan, in conjunction with Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairarapa Iwi Development Trust. Accountable for delivering the strategy and ensuring the social, cultural, Taiao and community aspirations of the Trust are developed, met, and delivered on, you will bring to the role your ability to apply analytical frameworks using your proven whānau development, commercial, financial, and economic skills. You will be supporting projects on a day-to-day perspective as well as working alongside multiple stakeholders.

Providing oversight to all functions to enhance delivery, this position will lead, manage, and contribute to strategic innovation and development. Taking the same strategic view of stakeholder management, you will take the principal role across implementation and evaluation of growth strategies.

You will have the ability to operate effectively in an evolving organisation as it is built from the ground up, and be able to develop a wide range of effective relationships with a iwi, pan-tribal groups as well as across the business and government sector. Highly ethical and aligned with values and principles of NKKWTNR, you will be consultative and collaborative in your style of leadership.

Possessing an entrepreneurial flair and willingness to learn, you will have a hands-on approach and disposition to work alongside others. Positively communicating and leading the Wairarapa Iwi Development Trust strategic plans in line with the overall strategic plan, you will deliver on the direction of NKKWTNZ. Furthermore, you will take pride in managing all aspects of projects to ensure they are aligned to the overarching strategy by procuring adequate resources to achieve project objectives in planned timeframes and budgets.

Providing high quality insight and advice to the Group CEO on a range of matters, you will have oversight on organisational and operational issues to successfully deal with critical interactions as they arise. Politically savvy and operating with political neutrality, you will find it easy to broker new relationships, and enhancing established ones as you navigate across all levels of the business.

Essential skills or experiences for the role a relevant tertiary or professional qualification is desirable, this can however be offset by equivalent experience.

Skills knowledge and experience required for application will include demonstrated leadership and management experience working within a ‘start-up’ organisation. Strong understanding of financial and investment concepts, commercially and fiscally astute. Experience working within complex systems, organisations, and practices. Proven experience managing business change involving experience developing and reviewing quantitative and qualitative analysis to support decision making.

Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, knowledge of Te Reo me ōna tikanga and an awareness and sensitivity of the kaupapa. Able to demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively to develop and grow relationships proactively, supported by strong communication and interpersonal skills. Displaying innovation, enthusiasm, and passion - you think outside of the box, and are eager to find new ways to innovate and deliver.

Past expertise in the principals of organisational development to deliver on organisational goals and priorities. Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills, with the ability to influence and enable and effectively manage internal and external stakeholders through trust, advocacy, and collaboration. Skilled in the navigation of complex organisational and political climates.
