About the Role
We are seeking a passionate and culturally knowledgeable Community Liaison Officer to join our Social & Emotional Wellbeing team.

The Community Liaison Officer will facilitate the delivery of suicide prevention education and interventions and coordinate postvention activities to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, families and communities throughout the Goldfields region.

The position will support the implementation of the Goldfields Region Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Suicide Prevention Plan and work collaboratively with community, service providers and other key stakeholders.

Importantly, this position does not have direct service delivery functions to individuals. The focus is on community engagement, education, coordination, capacity building, prevention and postvention support.

Key Responsibilities
Support the implementation of the Goldfields Region Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Suicide Prevention Plan.
Facilitate culturally appropriate suicide prevention education, awareness and intervention activities.
Coordinate and support postvention responses following suicide or suspected suicide within Aboriginal communities.
Provide culturally appropriate support and liaison to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities experiencing grief and loss.
Work collaboratively with Aboriginal communities, organisations, service providers and key stakeholders.
Facilitate and support suicide prevention training and education across the Goldfields region.
Assist with the coordination of community-based suicide prevention initiatives and activities.
Promote culturally safe approaches to suicide prevention, grief, loss and social and emotional wellbeing.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with community members, organisations and service providers.
Support community engagement and participation in suicide prevention initiatives.
Identify opportunities to strengthen local capacity and community awareness around suicide prevention.
Maintain appropriate records, documentation and reporting in accordance with organisational requirements.
Participate in relevant meetings, forums, working groups and community activities.
Undertake regional travel, including overnight travel, as required.
Ensure all activities are undertaken in accordance with Bega Garnbirringu policies, procedures and relevant legislation.
Essential Criteria
Applicants must have:

Aboriginality is an essential criterion, provided for in accordance with Section 50D of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA).
Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care, Mental Health, Community Services and/or Training and Assessment, or equivalent training, qualifications or relevant experience. Applicants currently enrolled and studying in one of these fields will also be considered.
Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and families, particularly in relation to grief and loss, suicide prevention or community wellbeing.
Strong knowledge and awareness of Aboriginal culture and history, including current issues affecting the lives and wellbeing of Aboriginal people.
Demonstrated ability and willingness to facilitate and support training and education across the Goldfields region.
Well-developed communication, interpersonal and community engagement skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with Aboriginal communities and key stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, organise activities and manage competing priorities while maintaining confidentiality and cultural safety.
Applicants must also have:

Current WA C Class Driver's Licence.
Valid Working with Children Check (WA).
Current National Criminal History Check / Police Clearance.
Desirable Criteria
Experience in suicide prevention, intervention or postvention.
Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE) or equivalent.
Experience delivering suicide prevention or mental health awareness training.
Experience coordinating community education programs or community-based initiatives.
Knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander suicide prevention frameworks and strategies.
Experience working within an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation.
Knowledge of local Goldfields Aboriginal communities and service networks.
Experience working collaboratively with government and non-government service providers.
Current First Aid and CPR certification.
