Team Lead NZ Transport Agency location Waikato.

Seeking a strategic communications and engagement professional who is passionate about leading people and delivering high quality communications and engagement advice. As well as leading people, you will be working across key transport infrastructure projects in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty. Role could be located in Hamilton or Tauranga, with 3 days per week in the Hamilton office.

The opportunity the Team Lead role is a balance of people leadership and strategic communications and engagement. Our Team Leaders have strong technical communications and engagement skills together with some management or leadership experience. Development opportunities exist, including leadership training.

As a people leader you will have oversight and leadership of the operational work of a team of senior advisors and advisors who you will support to deliver high quality engagement and communications. You will build and enhance the overall capability of the team to ensure quality and consistency. You will be accountable for all people management activities including coaching and recruitment.

As Team Lead you will also deliver principal-level communications support and strategic advice to senior management and across infrastructure delivery projects. Together with the Regional Manager and Bay of Plenty Team Lead you will foster a team culture that is inclusive and supportive, based on the NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) values and behaviours.

You will work alongside your Regional Manager to ensure successful workforce planning by analysing, forecasting, and planning workforce supply and demand and assessing gaps to deliver regional priorities.

We are looking for great storytellers with a strong understanding of communications channels and a love of building relationships. You will be quick to identify potential issues and risks, always looking out for the reputation of NZTA. You will be able to deliver complex communications and engagement strategies and an IAP2 qualification would be a plus.

If you enjoy working in a fast-paced environment on complex, inter-linked projects or programmes of work that can be technical and ambiguous; you have experience in government, as well as a desire to lead and grow others, then we need you.

About you to be successful in this role, you will bring experience in leading and motivating a team of engaged professionals and creating a team environment where people can grow and develop. Extensive experience in communications and engagement strategy development and the proven ability to provide clear and trusted advice for senior managers and officials.

A strategic thinker who can make the connections between various aspects of a large organisation and implications for their team. A flexible, can-do attitude and a self-starter with the drive to deliver. Excellent writing and editing skills and experience presenting complex information, and experience in the design and delivery of written media, external and internal communication material.

Sound knowledge of communication and engagement tools, techniques and channels. Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning in the field of communications and engagement, and leadership. Demonstrated knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori.

Knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector. A tertiary qualification in communications or a related discipline. You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.
