Job Description
As a Senior Security Engineer in Telstra’s Security Engineering team, you’ll help shape and protect the future of our technology environment. You’ll design and implement security controls across our DevOps pipelines, cloud infrastructure, and enterprise networks, ensuring security is embedded at every layer.
You’ll work hands-on in a fast-paced Agile environment alongside engineering and DevOps teams to assess and reduce risk across our platforms. This role blends technical depth with strategic influence — ideal for someone who thrives on solving complex challenges and improving security at scale.
As a trusted advisor, you'll contribute to secure design and implementation while helping uplift security practices and shape Telstra’s overall security capability.
What You’ll Do
Partner with engineering and platform teams to embed security into solution design and delivery lifecycles.
Lead the implementation of security controls within cloud, DevOps, and network environments.
Provide technical consulting and design input across security and network platforms.
Support deployments and changes — including some flexibility for after-hours work as required.
Operate as a subject matter expert, working autonomously and collaboratively within an Agile team.
Contribute to the evaluation and integration of emerging technologies, tools, and best practices.
What you bring
You’re a seasoned Security Engineer or Network Security Specialist with experience supporting enterprise-scale environments. You’re technically strong, a great communicator, and enjoy working across teams to embed secure solutions.
We’d love to see:
5–8+ years of experience in network security, cloud security, or infrastructure security roles.
Strong experience with one or more major firewall platforms (e.g. Palo Alto, Cisco FTD, Juniper, Checkpoint).
Solid hands-on skills in routing & switching (e.g. OSPF, BGP, VLANs, port channels, VRFs).
Familiarity with cloud environments (e.g. AWS, Azure) and CI/CD or DevOps security practices.
Experience working in Agile environments and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams.
Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Nice to have (but not required):
Exposure to SR-MPLS or carrier-grade networking.
Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CCNP Security, or similar.
Experience with automation tools (Terraform, Ansible) or scripting for security use cases.
