The United States of America Consulate General in Auckland invites applications from all interested candidates for the full-time position of Security Investigator in the Regional Security Office.
The job holder will maintain official liaison with host country and third country intelligence, security and law enforcement organizations to conduct exchanges of current counter-terrorist, counter-intelligence, and criminal investigative data.
You will report and interpret information of security significance developed through host country liaison activity and review current and near-term local events on political, security, and crime related developments in the region to identify security concerns.
Other responsibilities include assisting the Regional Security Office in contract oversight of the local guard force, maintaining and managing emergency preparedness inventories, documentation, and training events, arranging and providing protective security coverage, host-country security liaison and other services for U.S. VIP visits and conferences within the region; performing investigations related to counter-terrorism, counter-intelligence, employee malfeasance, etc; conducting background investigations for all local and contract employees; and assisting with residential and physical security surveys and audits.
To qualify for this role, you will have completed either a minimum of 2 years at University and have a minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience, focusing on investigations within a military, police or private security entity OR have completed secondary school PLUS 5 years of experience in law enforcement, military, private security, or investigation.
You must have a working knowledge of the principles and techniques of investigating, good working knowledge of documentary sources of information, and familiarity with pertinent local laws such as marriage, divorce, adoption, invasion of privacy, etc. You must also have an understanding of practical application of criminal law in New Zealand. A valid NZ driver’s license is a requirement for this position.
You must have the ability to maintain extensive contacts with officials of various local agencies, primarily the New Zealand Police, and an ability to deal effectively with others and to obtain their cooperation. You must be able to distinguish between relevant and irrelevant information and to report facts accurately in a logical, concise, and objective manner.
