About the role the purpose of Te Tari Pūreke, Firearms Safety Authority business unit is to enable New Zealand to be a world leader in arms safety through an effective regulatory and administrative approach to the Arms Act and Arms Regulations. Established to lead, operate, and develop investment in modernisation of the firearms system, which will result in a more efficient and effective risk-based licensing system, and shall improve public confidence in the firearms licensing system.

The modernisation of the Arms Regulatory System will take every opportunity to prevent harm through transparent, high quality, consistent, legislatively correct, and effective regulatory activities. This will also cover world leading administration, education, and promotion of compliance within the provisions of the Arms Act and Arms Regulations.

To support the delivery of these outcomes you will produce high quality intelligence product that provides oversight of the national firearms environment. You will work in partnership with other teams across Te Tari Pūreke and Police to ensure the firearms system and regulator is informed and responsive to community and Police safety needs.

You will prepare intelligence products that will be used to support decision making, identifying risks and opportunities, and provide sound recommendations to manage risk. You will support briefings to the Police Executive and other senior officials on the firearms system trends and emerging risks. An experienced practitioner with previous work experience or knowledge of our current firearms environment would be beneficial but not mandatory.

As an Intelligence Analyst, you will provide specialist support to the intelligence unit through scanning, collection, collation, storage, analysis, retrieval and dissemination of information for intelligence purposes. You will be able to use your critical thinking skills to provide insight and foresight on complex problems and issues and provide conclusions and assessments to support planning and decision making in the organisation. This position would suit a naturally inquisitive individual who wants to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. You will be able to establish and maintain sustainable partnerships.

Key accountabilities demonstrate analytical thinking to interpret information for intelligence analysis. Proficiency in open-source navigation and analysis. Research, analyse and write intelligence products to assist decision makers.

Manage competing priorities and demands to deliver timely, relevant Intelligence and achieve results for the team. Provide clear and concise verbal briefings. Develop and maintain a wide range of positive relationships (internal and external). Use Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) to develop a high standard of reports/presentations.

Qualifications / requirements applicants need to be New Zealand or Australian Citizen, or, New Zealand Permanent Resident. Hold the NZ Diploma in Intelligence Analysis (NZDIA) or equivalent or able to complete NZDIA modules early in employment.
