Reporting to the Data Science Manager, the role will work closely with technical and business stakeholders to transform complex problems into analytical, data science, ML and AI solutions. This role will work across various initiatives , including but not limited to : network analysis and optimization, pricing modelling and optimization, customer analytics, forecasting and AI/ML democratisation.

They also contribute to the development of a thriving data-science/AI/ML craft at Post and support colleagues in the field to unlock business value leveraging data-enabled approaches and capabilities.

 

What you’ll deliver with us

Providing development in one or more of the following domains (non-exclusive list) : statistical analyses and modelling, advanced analytics, optimisation of network operations, forecasting, pricing modelling and optimization, AI/ML incl. GenAI.
Design, build, train, evaluate, deploy and monitor models from Exploration/Discovery/Experimentation to POC to production-grade (enterprise-scale).
Advisory services to enable colleagues and the broader business to leverage data-science/AI/ML effectively.
Developing strong relationships with the business to inspire and deliver commercial value.
Working with a highly skilled ML Engineering team and other teams in the enterprise
Building the organisation’s understanding and capability in data science/AI/ML and supporting the achievement of Australia Post's vision for AI.

Commercial & Strategic Priorities:

Support delivery of the Data & AI Services strategic roadmap by developing solutions that provide for enhanced operations, safety or growth.
Translation of business problems into requirements that can be solved via data-science/AI.
Lead the end-to-end development and delivery of data-science/AI solutions and support business adoption/ operationalisation.
Essential Experience
Industry and Function

Experience with delivering data science outcomes that lead to actionable and impactful outcomes. Ideally you will have 2+ years in an industry role
Experience utilising a variety of analytic/data-science/AI/ML approaches
Critical thinker and strong communicator; able to evaluate and convey technical choices
Experience in Agile or Kanban delivery methodologies
Growth mindset
Comfortable with ambiguity and Fail-Fast Fail-Early Fail-Smart and Rapid Prototyping
Experience in troubleshooting Data Quality issues, with a curious and critical mindset
Experience with conceptual modelling of business processes vs available data, and validating and refining with business with prompt and pro-active engagement, leveraging data- and hypothesis-driven approaches
Critical Knowledge
Market and Environment

Good understanding of data-science/AI/ML trends and technological advancements, especially as they relate to enterprise use
Commercial understanding of operations focused industry e.g. utilities, logistics etc. where data is a key differentiator or value provider
eCommerce industry trends
Technical and/or Professional Qualifications/ Skills Required

Degree in a relevant discipline, e.g. engineering, science, econometrics, maths, statistics etc.
Fluent in SQL and Python
Comfortable working with large data sets in a hyperscalar environment (GCP preferred, but equivalent experience in AWS, Azure etc OK)
Strong understanding of end-to-end data science processes (e.g. CRISP-DM)
Some experience with , or strong understanding of, MLOps platforms (Vertex preferred or equivalent), including code management tools
Experience with analytics and/or MLOps orchestration tools and frameworks (e.g. Apache Airflow, dbt, CloudComposer or similar)
Able to visualise data using a variety of approaches
Working understanding of process improvement & modelling techniques e.g. 80/20 rule, Lean, Six Sigma, Pareto Principle, Agile Methodology - experience with a bonus
