About the role:

Lead a small team to guide and influence the strategic direction and oversight of First Nations engagement, and cultural heritage and Native Title outcomes across Origin’s renewable and cleaner energy project portfolio. Provide senior leadership, expert advice, and governance to ensure culturally respectful, legally compliant, and mutually beneficial relationships with First Nations peoples and organisations.

Key responsibilities:

Lead the integration of First Nations perspectives and cultural heritage requirements into project planning, risk management, and approval pathways.
Provide authoritative advice to executives and project teams on complex Native Title, cultural heritage and First Nations issues, including relevant legislation, and emerging risks.
Lead the negotiation, implementation, and monitoring of Indigenous Land Use Agreements (ILUAs) and other agreements. Ensure compliance with the terms of agreements and that benefits (financial, cultural, or land access) are delivered.
Oversee the development and implementation of cultural heritage assessments, CHMPs, and ensure compliance with all regulatory and legal obligations.
Represent Origin in senior-level negotiations and relationship management with Traditional Owner groups, Land Councils, and Prescribed Body Corporates.
Mentor and lead a team of First Nations engagement professionals, fostering a culturally safe, high-performance culture.
Ensure robust governance, reporting, and evaluation frameworks are in place to track and enhance performance across First Nations and heritage dimensions.

What will you bring?

Extensive experience in First Nations engagement and/or cultural heritage management within the energy, resources, infrastructure, or government sectors.
Deep understanding and experience in working with Native Title, cultural heritage legislation, and relevant state and federal regulatory frameworks.
Proven experience leading complex negotiations and long-term relationship building with Traditional Owner groups, Prescribed Body Corporates, Land Councils, and Indigenous communities.
Demonstrated ability to lead teams in sensitive, high-stakes environments requiring cultural intelligence and discretion.
Experience developing and implementing cultural heritage management plans, due diligence processes, and engagement strategies for major projects.
Tertiary qualifications in law, anthropology, archaeology, Indigenous studies, heritage management, or a related discipline.
