About the Role
We are seeking a creative, organised and highly motivated Communications & Publications Officer to join our Corporate Services team.
The Communications & Publications Officer is responsible for delivering effective communication and publication activities that support the needs and objectives of Bega Garnbirringu.
The position will facilitate, develop, implement and review communication strategies designed to strengthen organisational communication, promote Bega Garnbirringu's services and improve community engagement.
The role will coordinate a range of written, digital and visual communications, including newsletters, staff communications, annual reports, e-bulletins, educational and promotional materials, website content, social media and media-related materials.
The Communications & Publications Officer will also provide administrative support to Management as required and act as the first point of contact for communications and media enquiries, ensuring all external and internal communications are consistent with the organisation's communication strategy, values and brand.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, coordinate and implement communication strategies that support organisational objectives.
Prepare, edit and publish high-quality written and digital communications for a range of audiences.
Coordinate Bega Garnbirringu's quarterly newsletters, staff newsletters, annual report, monthly e-bulletins and other publications.
Develop engaging educational, promotional and community information materials.
Create and maintain website and social media content in accordance with organisational guidelines.
Coordinate communications and media enquiries and ensure appropriate responses are provided.
Support the development of media releases, promotional material, presentations and other communications.
Capture and edit photographs and other visual content for organisational use.
Ensure communications are accurate, engaging, culturally appropriate and consistent with Bega Garnbirringu's branding.
Coordinate communication projects and ensure deadlines are met.
Build and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Coordinate and provide guidance to a small communications team where required.
Provide administrative support to Management as required.
Maintain confidentiality and comply with organisational policies, procedures and relevant legislation.
Contribute to continuous improvement of Bega Garnbirringu's communication and community engagement activities.
Essential Criteria
Applicants must demonstrate:
Demonstrated experience in a communications, publications, marketing or similar role, including the ability to design, develop and publish print and digital materials.
Sound knowledge and understanding of communication methods, strategies and practices.
Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to draft, edit and adapt content for different audiences and communication mediums.
Demonstrated ability to plan and organise work, manage competing priorities and meet strict deadlines.
Highly developed interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and maintain effective relationships.
High level of initiative, attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to work autonomously and proactively.
Strong computer literacy, including experience using Canva and Microsoft Office applications, together with the ability to use camera equipment and edit photographs.
Applicants must also have:
Demonstrated ability to uphold the principles of cultural safety and communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Current WA C Class Driver's Licence.
Valid Working with Children Check (WA).
National Criminal History Check / Police Clearance valid within the last three months.
Current CPR Certificate.
Desirable Criteria
Experience working within an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation, health service or community organisation.
Relevant qualification in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Media, Digital Media or a related discipline.
Experience managing organisational social media platforms.
Experience with website content management systems.
Experience developing corporate publications, annual reports or community newsletters.
Experience coordinating media activities and responding to media enquiries.
Experience with graphic design and digital content creation.
Knowledge of Aboriginal health and the social and cultural factors affecting Aboriginal communities.
Experience leading or coordinating a small team.

37.5-hour working week, Monday to Friday.
