Casual Mechanical Engineer Macquarie University location Sydney. Macquarie University’s Australian Astronomical Optics department is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer for a short-term period on a casual basis. The position will be available from January 2020 for up to 3 months on a casual basis, approximately 5 days per week. Salary $64.33 per hour. Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager you will develop concepts, system and subsystem level mechanical designs and parts drawings for instrument projects, perform structural, kinematic, vibration, and thermal analyses through fea and other analytical techniques, develop alignment, assembly, and test plans for the verification and acceptance of mechanical and opto-mechanical components, sub-systems, and instruments, produce documentation for project proposals, reviews, subsystem analysis and tests, and for instrument operation and maintenance manuals, develop technical specifications for procurements and evaluate the market for parts and products, assemble and test mechanical parts and components of instruments. Essential criteria bachelor’s degree or diploma in mechanical engineering or related discipline, demonstrated skills in cad design and mechanical drawing production, demonstrated skills in analysis for precision mechanical engineering, proven track record in opto-mechanics for scientific or technical instrumentation, knowledge of and/or training in systems engineering practises for technical projects, experience collaborating and working as part of a multi-discipline team.
