Aviation Security Officer (ASO) | $70,084 per annum (pro-rata if part-time) | Multiple vacancies | Full-Time & Part-Time.

Aviation Security Service (AvSec) is the Government provider of aviation security in Aotearoa New Zealand. As a safety regulator, the Civil Aviation Authority exists to enable safe flight for social connections, and economic benefit for NZ. The role ASO's are required to undertake a paid training course, working 8.5 hours a day upon starting their role. This training is classroom-based, and will be completed over 6 weeks. This may require you to attend some classroom-based courses located in either Christchurch or Auckland, as well as on-job experience in our operation. Once you have completed this training, you will obtain a NZQA Level 4 qualification and ongoing development opportunities are offered. Once signed-off, ASO's have the following responsibilities carry out pre-flight security screening and hold baggage screening of departing passengers and their baggage.

Use a variety of equipment and processes to ensure safety within the aerodrome is not compromised. Perform mobile, foot and static patrols in assigned areas. Carry out checks to ensure ID cards are displayed appropriately in security areas. Prevent breaches of aviation security & safety in the area assigned.

Requirements to be considered for a career with AvSec, you must have the following NZ/Australian citizenship or NZ residency. A full clean New Zealand driver's licence. Willing to comply with all required Health and Safety procedures. Medically and physically fit and willing to undertake a medical assessment and drug & alcohol test by a licensed practitioner.

Work a shift pattern of 6 days on and 3 days off - this includes a variety of morning, late and night shift start times. Those with colour vision deficiencies, criminal convictions or recent serious injuries will not be considered.
