The Associate Director (AD) of Data Engineering focuses on scaling people leadership, embedding consistent engineering practices, and driving delivery outcomes. The AD partners closely with senior stakeholders to align data engineering capabilities with business priorities.
What You’ll Do
The AD will be required to:
Leads and manages the data engineering team, providing coaching, support, and development opportunities
Defines, maintains, and evolves engineering best practices, frameworks, and engineering standard
Embeds governance through code reviews, quality checks, and alignment to team-wide processes
Promotes knowledge sharing and collaboration through showcases and the engineering community of practice
Drives innovation by encouraging the adoption of modern tools, automation, and scalable design patterns
Embeds governance and ensures alignment to architectural direction through quality reviews, technical oversight, and active participation in the community of practice
What You’ll Bring
To be successful in this role, the right person will demonstrate:
Strong hands-on experience in cloud-based (Databricks and GCP) data engineering, including pipeline development, orchestration, and automation
Deep understanding of data architecture, governance principles, and modern engineering frameworks and patterns
Proven leadership in managing hybrid teams, including coaching, performance management, and career development
Skill in embedding engineering standards, driving capability uplift, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement
Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to align engineering delivery to business priorities
Delivery quality through governance processes, technical reviews, and best practice enforcement
Experience working in complex environments with cross-functional teams, contractors, and external partners
