About the Role
We are seeking a passionate and community-focused Community Engagement Worker to join our Social Support team.

The Community Engagement WorkerCommunity Safety and Wellbeing Engagement Officer, In this role, you will be assisting in delivering programs to strengthen social and emotional wellbeing where ever possible by providing supports for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples at a grass roots level.

The role will work closely with Aboriginal people across the Goldfields region, including Ninga Mia and Boulder Camp, and will develop strong relationships with clients, community members, Bega employees and external service providers.

Key Responsibilities
Supporting the impact of past trauma, dispossession, separation of families, ongoing social disadvantage, racism and other historical, social and cultural issues that impact Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Peoples.
Prioritise the needs of the stolen generation.
Travel throughout the Goldfields and surrounding remote communities to engage with individuals and stakeholders. To places such as Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Menzies, Leonora, Norseman, Laverton and Esperance.
Support families with advocacy to wrap around community services such as external referral pathways around counselling, AOD support and rehabilitation.
Assist in developing and delivering community based programs to promote wellbeing.
Essential Criteria
Applicants must have:

Aboriginality under Section 50D of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984.
Qualification in Community Services or a related field, or relevant experience.
Demonstrated ability to develop strong and productive partnerships with the Aboriginal community, Bega employees and key stakeholders.
Demonstrated skills and experience in implementing and coordinating community events and programs.
Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to relate effectively to team members and clients with a broad range of needs.
Demonstrated commitment to confidentiality, accuracy, problem-solving and effective prioritisation in a busy environment.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team while managing competing priorities and meeting deadlines.
Current First Aid and CPR certification.
Applicants must also have:

Current Working with Children Check (WA).
National Police Clearance/Police Certificate valid within the last three months.
Current WA C Class Driver's Licence.
Desirable Criteria
Experience working within an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation or community service environment.
Experience working with Aboriginal people and communities in the Goldfields region.
Experience in alcohol and other drug services, prevention, education or rehabilitation.
Experience supporting people experiencing homelessness or social disadvantage.
Knowledge of local community services and referral pathways.
Experience in community development and engagement.
Experience coordinating community programs, activities or events.
Understanding of culturally safe practice and the social determinants of health.
