About us the Aboriginal & Islander Independent Community School, known as the Murri School, is an independent school established in 1986 out of the vision of Indigenous community members who could see the need for an Indigenous-owned and controlled school. The school has a total enrolment of approximately 280 students in Prep to Year 12. This unique P-12 Indigenous learning environment is located in Acacia Ridge, thirteen kilometres from the CBD.

About the position the Murri School is currently seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated Youth Worker who is committed to excellence to join our close-knit community school. This is a full time position. It is remunerated according to the Aboriginal and Islander Independent Community School Inc. Enterprise Bargaining Agreement.

The Youth Worker will be responsible for supporting the students in the high school to develop personal skills, foster positive social connections, enhance engagement in learning and strengthen their connection to school.

The successful applicant must have a current Working with Children Check - Blue Card, relevant qualifications in this field eg Certificate IV in Youth Work, is highly desirable, experience as a Youth Worker in an education setting is highly desirable.

In this role, you will be expected to as a member of the school student support team, make informed contributions to the ongoing case management, planning and support of identified students. Respond to and assist escalated and disengaged students. Identify barriers to attendance and forge stronger connections between the school and home.

Identify and connect students to appropriate resources in the wider community to address their wellbeing needs. Conduct home visits with student/s and their families when appropriate. Contribute to a positive, caring and supportive approach in the school’s trauma-informed setting.
