Blue Light is a National Youth Development Organisation working in partnership with the Police, Government Agencies and local communities to deliver a wide range of youth programmes and initiatives.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting vulnerable or disadvantaged young people/rangatahi in our community. Come and join our dedicated and committed team. Blue Light has been in operation for over 40 years working in the youth sector alongside our partners, the NZ Police.

Otara Blue Light is a registered branch of New Zealand Blue Light and has been operating in the community for over 30 years. Otara Blue Light established, implemented, and deliver the Te Huringa o Te Tai o Nga Wahine programme, offering a Tikanga Maori based-perspective to reduce reoffending and improve self-awareness, self-worth, and self-confidence of young females aged 14 – 18 years of predominantly Maori descent.

We are seeking a Whanau Support Worker to join our Otara Blue Light team. This is an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young females and their whanau. As Family Support Co-ordinator, you will play an integral part of our programme to support the families of the young ladies we work with and to strengthen them as a unit and to improve the opportunities of both the young people and their families.

Role objectives include support the Programme development and implementation. Assist the team of Youth Workers, facilitating seamless Programme coordination and delivery. Building relationships with families of the Young People in our programme. Administration requirements in ensure solid records are maintained and ensure reports. Constant reviewing of programme to determine any changes required and to ensure goals are achieved.

To be successful you will ideally have exceptional teamwork and communication skills. Proven ability in developing and implementing relationships with Families of young people in our programme. Ability to build rapport quickly with young people and their whanau. Cultural awareness particularly around Maori and Pacifica communities.

Experience in managing a caseload. Strong administrative skills and computer competency. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy with reporting and documentation. Experience in social services or working with familaies of at-risk youth is ideal, however applicants with transferrable life skills are encouraged to apply. Ability to be flexible with working hours.

A full clean NZ driver’s licence this position would suit someone who has a passion for working with rangatahi, enjoys working as part of a dynamic team and is also organised and motivated to work on their own. Blue Light works in the youth charity sector and we are looking for someone who relishes challenge and diversity while bringing a desire and vision for a better future for our young people.

This is a full-time role for a fixed term until end of June 2025. Applicants for this position should have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa. This position is based in the Manukau City area however you will be part of the National Team and supported by them (as well as having local support).
