Position Summary

Implementing and developing Costco’s suite of risk management and Work Health & Safety (WHS) tools and procedures, and promote an organisational culture where WHS matters are embedded in operating procedures throughout our business. Demonstrate understanding of the various legislative and regulatory requirements in areas of WHS and workplace compliance relevant to a retail/wholesale business. You are business oriented and understands the importance of engaging/consulting with the various stakeholders and to become a valuable business partner. Travel is a requirement of the position.

Job Duties/Essential Functions

Researching and providing technical advice to the business (including keeping up to date on best practice and legal requirements) which will include legislation in Australia and New Zealand
Identifying areas for improvement or focus – prioritising, developing programs, providing training and assisting the operation teams to implement them
Completing goals/projects according to pre-determined deadlines
Creating/developing materials, conducting training or initiatives for safety program topics such as incident analysis/prevention, safety policies/procedures, regulatory compliance, safety training as required by law
Creating and conducting training (eg. WHS, Risk Management)
Teaching/communicating safety information to managers to be integrated into their daily operations
Reviewing and updating the risk management manual as required
Creating reports to be used when reviewing workers’ compensation and incidents with locations and senior management
Identifying exposures and training opportunities
Conducting Due Diligence reporting and training for Officers (including US)
Creating and interpreting adhoc reports
Writing professional correspondence to regulatory agencies and senior management
Working with locations and senior management on regulatory citations and/or complaint letters as required
Providing locations and senior management compliance information for federal, state, local health/environmental regulations regarding equipment, facilities, and unsafe behaviours
Conducting serious incident investigations and provide assistance to operations for regulatory visits / inspections
Safety Month – developing and implementing the program annually
Conducting audits and providing reports to locations on a periodic basis
Developing and implementing environmental safety and procedures
Knowledge and understanding of legislative and regulatory compliance for WHS, risk management, disposal of chemical and handling of dangerous goods, risk assessments and other relevant areas for compliance
Record keeping – up to date and ensure documentation is filed correctly.
Job Requirements

Completed Graduate study in risk and safety or related field
Minimum 3 years experience in a similar role in a retail, FMCG or warehouse enviornment
Intermediate knowledge of Google Suit (Docs, Sheets, Slides), and exposure to Safety Management Systems
Strong communication, interpersonal, organisation and problem solving skills
Excellent evaluation and analytical skills
Ability to train, develop and mentor employees
Ability to keep abreast of changes in regulations and technology
Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
Ability to travel regularly interstate and to New Zealand
Australian Driver License and vehicle
High Risk Licenses (Forklift) desireable.
