Following the incredible success of our previous programmes and ongoing growth, St John is excited to consider applications for a fast-track ambulance officer education programme for employment in the Auckland district.

As part of this vocational education programme, we will train you to be a full-time frontline ambulance officer alongside a Paramedic, or to be lead clinician on a patient transport vehicle. Once fully trained you will be leading or assisting with the delivery of patient care, driving in emergency and non-emergency conditions, ensuring operational readiness and meeting the urgent and emergency health needs of the people of Aotearoa.

We will provide the support you need, while helping you to gain industry-recognised qualifications and skills. The programme provides in-house training to Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) level with around 6 months of training and placements to provide practical experience. Once fully trained, you will hold the New Zealand Diploma in Ambulance Practice and be working as part of a frontline ambulance crew.

The training programme is expected to start on October 16th 2023. The classroom weeks are expected to run in Hamilton. Employment on completion of the programme will be for Auckland only. If you are interested in other areas of New Zealand, please wait for other opportunities to be advertised.

What do I need to join this programme the interest and ability to study and gain a Level 5 NZ Diploma in Ambulance Practice in a fast-paced learning environment. Full NZ driving licence and either have held it for at least one year OR have a full licence and have completed an NZTA approved advanced driving course.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Good physical fitness and the ability to manage your health and wellbeing in a shift work environment. Be committed to on-going professional and personal development. A current level 2 first aid certificate will be required prior to starting the training course. If you do not hold a current first aid certificate, we can assist you to gain this prior to starting the course.

Previous experience in healthcare/social care environment is highly desirable, though not required, as full training will be provided. A passion for the work is the primary requirement.
