Warakirri College supports young people facing social disadvantage in Fairfield, Blacktown and our new campus in Campbelltown. We are looking to appoint a Teachers’ Aide (Student Learning Support Officer) for our Blacktown campus in a full-time role during school terms.
Warakirri College offers Year 10 and HSC courses to young people 15-22 who have disconnected from mainstream educational pathways, but who now want to complete their education in a safe and inclusive context with very small classes, a flexible adult learning environment and a happy team of dedicated professionals. In the role you would be responsible for the day to day support of the classroom teacher and assistance to students, working in small groups, in a classroom or with individual students.
The successful candidates will be empathetic to the needs of young people with complex social and learning challenges. Keen to support students’ individual needs and goals. Confident in using basic IT skills. Mature, resilient and reliable. Able to build strong professional relationships with staff and students. Good communicators who want to make a difference in the lives of young people.
Essential to the role appropriate qualifications as a Teacher or Teachers’ Aide. Demonstrated experience as a Teachers’ Aide in a secondary school environment. Ability to interact with young people who have faced social challenges. High level of judgement, flexibility and foresight to prioritise/resolve issues in line with College requirements and student needs. Highly developed communication, presentation and interpersonal skills. Commitment to the ethos and mission of Warakirri College.
