Substation Technician Apprentice Transgrid location Sydney.

Transgrid operates and manages the major high voltage electricity transmission network in NSW and the ACT, connecting generators, distributors and major end users. Our core role is to connect electricity consumers to a safe, secure and reliable network through efficient maintenance, proficient operation of assets and prudent investment.

Our network is the backbone of the NEM, enabling energy trading between Australia's three largest states along the east coast and supporting the competitive wholesale electricity market.

About our Apprentice program we are looking for driven 3rd Year Apprentices in Electrotechnology to contribute to the construction, maintenance, and repair of our substations across our transmission network. In this hands-on role, you will be working alongside experienced technicians, learning and developing skills critical to the operation of the power transmission industry.

Key responsibilities assist with the construction, operation, and maintenance of electrical substations and equipment. Perform routine inspections and maintenance of substation infrastructure to ensure operational efficiency. Troubleshoot and repair electrical faults under the supervision of qualified technicians.

Adhere to safety standards and procedures in all aspects of work. Continuously develop your skills and knowledge in electrical systems and substation operations. Ensure work is completed to meet compliance, quality, and safety requirements.

During your time as an apprentice within the program, you will have access to a competitive starting salary package including 15.5% superannuation. National accredited safety training and structured technical capability development programs in a variety of specialised areas including diagnostic testing and repairs on High Voltage equipment ranging up to 500kV on Transformers, Circuit Breakers and other primary and secondary plant.

Welding courses, hand tool and workshop machinery skills. Protective clothing and tools required for the job. Access to study assistance. On completion of the apprenticeship, you will receive a certificate of proficiency as an Electrotechnology - Electrician, and the opportunity to progress to a tradesperson role as a Substation Technician within the company

To be considered for the role, you must have current TAFE (or other) enrolment as a 3rd Year Apprentice in Electrotechnology - Electrician. A genuine interest in a trade working within a high voltage electricity transmission network. A current driver's licence or be willing to obtain one as soon as possible after appointment.

Ability to work in challenging environments, at heights, and in all weather conditions. Environmentally and socially responsible, with strong safety orientation. Ability to think laterally and to provide input to innovative solutions to complex problems. Ability to work well with others, and communicate with a diverse group of employees.

An Australian permanent resident status or an Australian or New Zealand citizen status. Ability to travel and work away from home at various locations when required. The ability to start by June 2025.
