About the role Station Support Officers (SSO) are pivotal to the efficient and effective delivery of front counter and back-office services within a police station.

The role of Frontline Station Support Officer is to provide customer service for the based at Balclutha Police Station. Every day you will be dealing with challenging situations which will need to be approached with professionalism, respect, and a positive manner. You will be welcoming people into the station and ensuring their enquiries are understood and handled appropriately.

Another function of the role is administration support including the management of exhibits, found property stores, assembling court files, ordering supplies, managing courier deliveries, ensuring Station security requirements, and acting as a general fountain of knowledge for the smooth operation of the station. The successful applicant must have sound computer skills and ability to learn new systems and applications.

Whilst this role is based at Balclutha, the position also services Milton, Lawrence, Owaka and Clinton. Sometimes there may administrative work from other areas. The roster for this role is 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday, with public holidays off.

Key accountabilities dealing with challenging circumstances in a customer services environment. Managing challenging situations involving members of the public in a professional, respectful and empathetic manner.

Recording of complaints from members of the public, answering general inquiries and performing reception duties such as managing contractor / visitor access. Be a leader of change amongst the team when new processes and policies are implemented. Working collegially as part of a team across the rural stations.

Composure and a calm demeanour during challenging situations and confrontation. Manage time effectively to complete multiple workstreams and meet deadlines.
