Focus of the Role
As a Staff Engineer in Digital Product Engineering, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical direction and platform architecture of Telstra’s mobile applications. You’ll lead by example, applying deep expertise in Android and/or iOS and/or Web development to deliver scalable, secure and high-performance mobile experiences.

What You’ll Do

Product & Technology - Software Engineering & IT develops and maintains Telstra's software and IT systems, working on some really cutting-edge technologies.

Define and drive the web/mobile/AEM engineering strategy aligned with Telstra’s digital transformation goals.
Lead the evaluation and integration of AI/ML and Generative AI technologies in mobile applications to enhance personalisation, accelerate development, enable intelligent automation, and deliver measurable business outcomes.
Define and drive the Product Engineering strategy aligned with Telstra’s digital transformation goals.
Influence cross-functional teams and stakeholders to adopt forward-looking engineering practices and technologies.
Architect and implement mobile features using Web, Android SDK, Kotlin, Java, Swift, and iOS frameworks.
Partner with Solution Design and Architecture teams to ensure technical alignment and strategic coherence.
Translate complex customer requirements into high-quality, timely mobile solutions.
Partner with Chapter Leads to identify technical capability gaps, shape learning plans, and uplift engineering standards across the mobile domain.
Be a role model for curiosity and continuous personal capability development, supporting others through coaching and mentoring.
Lead the development of native Android/iOS/Web applications, ensuring robust architecture and maintainable code.
Demonstrate strong product awareness of the business areas you support.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, designers, and backend engineers to deliver end-to-end solutions.
Drive automation in testing and deployment through CI/CD pipelines.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
Engage with stakeholders to translate requirements and into technical solutions.
Ensure adherence to software engineering best practices, including code reviews, testing, and documentation.
Contribute to strategic initiatives and influence the mobile engineering roadmap.
About You

8+ years of hands-on experience in Web/ mobile application development across Android / iOS /Web platforms, delivering production-grade apps with a focus on scale, performance, and user experience.
Bachelor’s degree in Computing Science, Engineering, or Information Management.
Demonstrated expertise in leading the integration of AI/ML and Generative AI technologies—including Copilot and prompt engineering—into engineering workflows and digital platforms.
Skilled in driving AI-powered automation, personalization, and content intelligence while ensuring ethical and responsible AI adoption aligned with enterprise governance.
Proven ability to align engineering decisions with broader company objectives and digital transformation goals.
Deep proficiency in React, Android SDK,Kotlin, Java, Swift, and SwiftUI and strong understanding of mobile APIs, UX design principles, and component management.
Demonstrated expertise in integrating AI/ML and Generative AI technologies—including Copilot, prompt engineering, and LLM-based tools—to enhance mobile development, automate workflows, and improve customer experiences.
Track record of implementing significant improvements in code quality, performance, stability, and scalability.
Deep expertise in mobile CI/CD workflows, including pipeline orchestration, DevOps practices, automated testing and observability practices using New Relic.
Experience implementing security best practices using tools such as Veracode, SonarQube, SAST and SEA.
Experience in cloud-native mobile development and microservices architecture, supporting multiple concurrent workstreams while maintaining high velocity and technical excellence.
Demonstrated technical leadership driving cross-team alignment and architectural decisions.
