About the role the Senior Systems Engineer is a highly skilled IT infrastructure practitioner who will lead, execute, and support a variety of both BAU (business as usual) and project activities to ensure the core systems infrastructure at Ravensdown is robust, reliable, performant, secure, and otherwise fit for purpose while continuously looking for opportunities to improve the effective use of technology to support the business strategy.
Key responsibilities ensure that the core infrastructure service lines are created in alignment with the overall Ravensdown strategy. Responsibility for maintenance and lifecycle planning key parts of the infrastructure team's core environment.
Provide infrastructure planning, design, implementation, and support services in responsible areas as needed storage networking, operating systems, network security, directory service, server virtualisation, system backup and restore, disaster recovery and business continuity, system and network monitoring, infrastructure application, installation, and configuration.
Participate in required scheduled after-hours work, troubleshooting, and/ or on call availability as required. Log incidents in the incident management tool and create any knowledge articles as necessary to support the service desk or other team members to solve the issue in future.
Where projects are managed provide clear scope and timelines, financials and resources planned and managed, risks assessed and mitigations and contingencies planned, and communications on project progress, issues, and other key events are timely and effective.
Stay current with the Ravensdown IT programme of work which includes both infrastructure along with business system projects in order to support the underlying platforms for which business applications operate on.
Stay informed of technology development and market trends and their relevancy to Ravensdown core infrastructure. Ensure cost benefit analysis of any proposed new technologies is investigated and submitted for consideration to the relevant IT leaders.
About you the role requires demonstrated practical experience and a thorough understanding of core infrastructure services. The candidate should be dedicated to continuous improvement, highly collaborative, and able to engage with stakeholders both within and outside the business. The position involves working with a collaborative team, where maintaining a positive attitude is important.
Essential skills computer Science / Engineering degree or similar qualification or equivalent experience. Minimum of 8 years working on a systems engineering role. Strong technical knowledge of physical and virtual infrastructure and supporting core services.
Strong technical knowledge of enterprise Microsoft cloud services (Microsoft 365). Experience with cloud Infrastructure (AWS and Azure). Experience in applying formal project methodology and project management skill to deliver multiple projects. Experience in multi-vendor environment and ability to manage ad build strong and effective vendor relationships.
Desirable skills experience with desktop and application virtualisation platforms and tools. Industry based qualifications from Cisco, Microsoft, AWS or similar. Strong network and security skills. Experience in SQL database administration.
