The Collins Senior Simulator Technician is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Collins Submarine Simulators at the Submarine Training and Systems Centre (STSC) at HMAS Stirling on Garden Island, WA. These devices, supporting Navy training, include the Submarine Control Simulator (SCS) and the Propulsion Control Simulator (PCS) of the Collins Platform Training System (PTS), a PTS Test Environment, and the Static Ship Control Simulators (SSCS).

Candidates must be Australian Citizens to undertake Defence Security Clearance, and meet NV1 and ITAR requirements.

KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Senior Simulator Technician, you are accountable for:

Operating and maintaining the simulators as directed by the Maintenance Manager.
Ensuring that the supported equipment is maintained in accordance with the manufacturers’ guidelines.
Coordinating corrective maintenance as and when required.
Maintaining tools and test equipment, and ensuring equipment is in calibration.
Maintaining records and documentation.
Managing compliance against relevant Thales and customer prescribed standards and processes.
Acting and undertaking duties as a Self Certifying Maintainer (SCM) when authorised.
Co-ordinating spares and repairs to ensure that the simulators meet contracted availability requirements.
Maintaining a sound working relationship with the customer and other relevant stakeholders.
Proactively identifying issues and solutions, keeping management informed of progress.
Effectively communicating with all levels of staff via staff meetings, written communications and one-
on-one communication.
Interacting and working with management/employees to promote teamwork.
KEY KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
To be successful in your role, you will have demonstrated and/or acquired the following knowledge and experience:

Qualifications in Electronics, Computer IT or similar fields teamed with a strong understanding of ICT across both software and hardware networks.
Experience with simulation projects preferably in a Defence context is desirable
Knowledge of submarine systems
Minimum of 5 years experience as a Simulator Technician or related fields.
Experience in a technical workshop or maintenance environment.
Customer relationship management.
Sound interpersonal skills and ability to maintain good team morale.
