Make a Difference
As a Senior Security Engineer (Telco Cloud), you’ll play a critical role in enhancing Telstra’s security posture. Your expertise in telecommunications, cloud security, automation, infrastructure as code (IaC), and cyber security will directly contribute to the protection and resilience of our Telco Cloud Networks. With strong knowledge of security technologies, policies, and industry standards and by applying DevSecOps and Agile practices you’ll deliver secure, scalable, and reliable solutions. You'll also act as a trusted adviser across cybersecurity, engineering, and DevOps teams. This hands-on technical role is central to our strategy, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of Telstra’s platforms, networks, and services.
What you’ll do
Define and operationalise security controls across cloud and network platforms to protect Telstra and its customers.
Embed secure-by-design principles into engineering processes, standards, and frameworks.
Lead the design, integration, and support diverse technologies that align with our strategic roadmap.
Enhance automation and CI/CD practices to improve delivery velocity and quality at scale.
Partner with business and technical stakeholders to ensure security solutions are practical and continuously improving.
Provide technical leadership and mentoring to engineers across different levels.
Evaluate and manage vendor solutions for secure and reliable delivery outcomes.
Document technical decisions and implementations to support knowledge sharing and operational excellence.
Participate in the on-call roster for critical incident response.
What You’ll Bring
Solid experience in security engineering across networks, cloud, or DevSecOps environments.
Strong knowledge of:
Cloud-native and traditional network security.
Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
Micro-segmentation and Zero Trust architectures.
Hands-on experience with:
Telecommunications, TCP/IP, SDN, virtualised networks.
Linux, Docker, Kubernetes.
Automation and scripting such as Python
Expertise in Telco Cloud platforms (e.g. OpenStack, CNIS, ECCD).
Experience securing modern infrastructure (Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, CDK).
Proven ability to deploy security capabilities via automation and CI/CD.
Familiarity with Agile practices and tools.
Strong understanding of frameworks and standards such as SOCI, NIST, GSMA, 3GPP.
Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills, especially with SMEs and external partners.
Nice to Have
Experience with system hardening and best practice implementations.
Tertiary qualifications in Cloud Security, Cyber Security, Telecommunications, or Network Security, or equivalent industry experience.
Relevant certifications:
CISSP, CCIE (Security), CompTIA Security+, or Cloud Security certifications (mandatory for cloud-focused roles).
Familiarity with Telstra’s Cloud Security Guidelines (if internal candidate or prior Telstra experience).
