About the business and the role Women's Housing Ltd (WHL) is a registered Housing Association and develops, builds and manages a range of housing services across Victoria. The Senior IAP Worker position is part of the Women's Services team that provides advocacy and housing information to women who are experiencing housing stress. Women's Housing Limited also provides a telephone advocacy service to women who are experiencing homelessness.

Women's Housing Limited focuses on human rights, particularly the basic rights of women (and their children) to secure safe and affordable housing. Since our establishment in 1997, we've been listening to and validating women's experiences, and acting as their voice in the housing sector. Domestic and family violence continues to be the major driver of homelessness and escaping family violence is the most common reason provided by people who seek help from specialist homelessness services.  Without a safe place to call home, no victim of family violence can help to rebuild her life or the lives of her children. Housing, must therefore be the founding plank for any successful response.

Job tasks and responsibilities the Senior Intake, Assessment and Planning Outreach role is part of the Women's Services team, consisting of five Intake Assessment and Planning staff. This role reports to the Operations Manager. As a result of COVID - 19, most staff are working from home however WHL will be transitioning to a return to the office as part of the COVID SAFE plan. There may be an ongoing need to work some time at home.

The initial assessment and planning workers assist people who are entering or exiting prison to maintain existing housing tenancies for those in remand and on short term sentences. Support people exiting prison to secure appropriate housing and support options. Access local homelessness support and housing through a coordinated and seamless pathway. This position is required to network with the wider sector to ensure best outcomes for clients. This position is based at the Women's Housing office in Cremorne and will require you to work from Dame Phyllis Frost Prison two days per week.

You will have Qualifications in a relevant discipline, Previous experience working in the housing sector, particularly in an IAP role. Experience in working with a broad range of clients. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the issues confronting women who are homeless. An awareness of issues facing women that may have experienced incarceration excellent communications skills and a commitment to social justice.
