Job description Senior Financial Accountant. Location – Parramatta. Employment type - Temporary full-time role until 30 April 2025. Salary - $120,859 pa to $133,183 pa, plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading.

Your role reporting to the Manager Companies, Capital and Concession, you will be supporting the Department's financial fixed assets related operations function to ensure a high quality of financial reporting and accounting services are delivered with strategic alignment to the department's organisational objectives.

The Department of Communities and Justice is the lead agency in the Stronger Communities cluster and this is a great opportunity for a candidate to work with finance business partners, business areas and other agencies across the cluster growing their professional network and expanding and applying their knowledge of technical accounting standards and financial reporting process.

What you'll do as part of the Financial Reporting and Management Team, you will be responsible for delivering continuous improvement in financial fixed assets related operations and internal controls, financial procedures development and maintenance of internal and external auditor's relationships.

Reporting to the Manager Companies, Capital and Concession, the candidate will be actively participating in the financial fixed assets related processes, analysing financial statements, preparing accounting position papers, coordination of reconciliation and provide support and advice

Communicate and explain accounting issues and evolving accounting standards - such as capital assets accounting, make good provision accounting, fixed assets stocktake and fixed assets revaluation, fair value measurement and useful life assessment.

Work closely with Statutory Accounting, Shared Services and Data Migration Delivery teams, liaise with finance business partners and business units to provide support on any financial fixed assets operational accounting matters and coordinate for information.

Assist Annual Statutory audit process by liaising with the audit team and various finance divisions. Assist in any ad-hoc reporting requirements or projects. The role is a secondment and maternity leave coverage opportunity, successful candidate is expected to start immediately with contract end date 30 April 2025.

Essential requirements of the role tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Business, Commerce or related discipline, or demonstrated equivalent experience. Professional accounting qualifications - CAANZ or CPAA or equivalent > 3years. Work experience in financial reporting matters.

Experienced in providing technical accounting advice including preparing accounting papers. Experience in SAP or other ERP systems and strong Excel skills. Excellent communication (both written & verbal) and strong stakeholder engagement skills. Sound knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, including the latest current and future developments.
