The IT Applications team within the Application Operational Services section is accountable for providing 24x7 critical ongoing support and preventative maintenance for applications supporting the Weather (including Aviation and Community Services) and Climate sectors. We aim to deliver an exceptional customer experience for our colleagues and customers by providing specialised expertise and support.
The occupant of this position will join a team of IT professionals, and will be primarily responsible for development, configuration, deployment and support of the Bureau's critical Heatwave system (including FME and meteorological visualisation application Visual Weather) for key users including Forecasting Operations. The position also provides secondary support for other applications supported by the team, such as Panther web application. The successful applicant will have demonstrated experience in developing and supporting complex meteorological or GIS applications using FME, Python, Linux, shell scripting, Visual Weather, spatial raster analysis, XML and CI/CD pipelines. Highly desirable skills include web application development and support, HTML, Javascript, PHP, pandas, Apache, and APIs as well as knowledge of Amazon Web Services. A working understanding of testing methodologies and software packaging tools will also be highly regarded.
Excellent technical analysis, problem solving, communication and teamwork skills are required, as well as flexibility and a willingness to learn new technologies. The occupant will be involved in interactions with application and system vendors, as well as other technical teams and forecasting experts across the Bureau.
