Senior Design Engineer Global bus Ventures ltd location Canterbury.

We have an opportunity for a Senior Design Engineer to join our Rolleston based team. This position is a pivotal leadership role within our design team and will require a depth and breadth of technical expertise and leadership experience. The role will involve the development of advanced engineering concepts, techniques, and standards as they relate to alternative fuel vehicles for the domestic and international market.

Global Bus Ventures has been building buses, coaches and specialty vehicles from the ground up since 1985 and ever since we have been innovating and adapting for new and expanding markets. We have experience in designing and building for the Middle East, Australia and New Zealand markets. Some of our recent projects include New Zealand’s first Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus for Auckland Transport, and the world’s first Hydrogen Fuel Cell Chase Boat for Emirates Team New Zealand.

About the role operate as a technical specialist, providing engineering design and expertise throughout all phases of our business. Formulating and developing advanced engineering concepts, techniques, and standards as they relate to heavy vehicles.

Problem analysis, solution development and design. Review and verify heavy vehicle designs undertaken by other engineers. Develop concept designs for heavy vehicles where these may offer a competitive advantage or improve constructability.

Verify designs to ensure they meet tender requirements and relevant safety standards. Identify safety and environmental hazards that may arise during the manufacturing operations.

Develop work methodologies and temporary support to reduce such safety and environmental hazards. Assist project staff in the construction and inspection of heavy vehicles, the commissioning of specialist components, and the execution of critical activities.

About you bachelors of Engineering - Mechanical or equivalent qualification and preferably a member of Engineering NZ (or equivalent). A minimum of 5 years' experience, successfully delivering projects on time, within engineering standards and meeting contractual requirements. Proven ability to lead, develop and mentor fellow Design staff.

Experience in permanent and temporary works, structural design, including steel, aluminium and composites. In depth understanding of mechanical, chassis and vehicle body related components and their interactions.

Competent in the use of MSOffice suite, CAD experience (3D modelling of complex parts and assemblies, creation of 2D drawings with appropriate manufacturing information) and proficiency with Solid Works preferred.

Well versed in FEA and calculations. Demonstrated ability to work with and mentor multi-disciplinary teams. Effective communicator, comfortable presenting and producing high quality documentation. Highly motivated and self-managing with a passion for innovation and accuracy in execution.

Proficiency in New Zealand and international codes and standards. Demonstrated ability to produce pragmatic, technically sound design solutions informed by robust risk assessment and safety in design. Focused on Design for Manufacturing outcomes.
