Are you looking for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity? We are searching for a Senior Counsellor to live and work onsite at Yulara, NT which is 20 min drive from Uluru, one of Australia's most iconic and culturally significant landmarks.
About the team
The Voyages’ Wellbeing Team facilitates culturally safe evidence-based initiatives to enhance the social, emotional, spiritual and cultural wellbeing of all staff members working at Ayers Rock Resort. The team has a strong focus on supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff, including trainees in the on-site residential National Indigenous Training Academy (NITA). The team develops and delivers outcomes through professional counselling services, dynamic activities program, staff training opportunities and the residential support program for NITA trainees.
About the role
The Senior Counsellor provides evidence-based, relationship-focused therapeutic assessment, counselling and psychological support for residents in Yulara. The team consists of a General Manager of Wellbeing, two Counsellors, an Activities Coordinator, a Youth Worker and the Residential Support Manager.
The purpose of the role is to enhance the social, emotional, spiritual and cultural wellbeing of all staff members working at Ayers Rock Resort through the provision of professional counselling services. This includes an active ‘reach-out’ community engagement work across the resort to develop resident awareness of available supports and provide a culturally safe environment informed by the local context.
The key duties of the role include:
Therapeutic assessment and counselling: provide counselling, debriefing, critical incident support and psycho-education sessions to all staff and their families who live at Ayers Rock Resort, using a trauma-informed, person-centred SEWB model.
Case management: maintain accurate session notes, file notes, program statistics and records, whilst working collaboratively with specialist services in Yulara, Alice Springs and other regional locations when required, including coordination of practical supports.
Community engagement and education: work in partnership with other team members and departments to assist in the facilitation of mental health awareness programs, training opportunities and reach-out work.
Stakeholder relationships: maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders internally and externally to effectively deliver program outcomes.
The formulation, implementation and evaluation of individual support plans for clients, with appropriate follow-up care (including referrals to other services or departments, as required).
About you
You are an experienced practitioner. You understand the unique and diverse strengths and challenges facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, with a willingness and capacity to listen and learn. You have relevant tertiary qualifications in social work or related field with experience in the provision of individual and group counselling sessions covering a variety of issues including trauma, grief and loss, mental health, relationship concerns and substance abuse/misuse. You will have proven experience in co-ordinating case management, communicating information and referral to other services, advocating and supporting residents in times of practical need and implementing safety planning.
