Senior Adviser - Treaty Partnerships, Role type Permanent full-time, location Wellington preferred, Salary band & range: $98,955 to $132,427 depending on skills and experience.
About the role we are looking for a Senior Adviser to join the Strategy, Performance and Treaty Partnerships directorate which is part of Biosecurity New Zealand (BNZ). This is an important role where you will have the opportunity to assist in achieving improved outcomes for iwi-Māori and for Aotearoa New Zealand.
As the Senior Adviser, you will lead the work to support BNZ's implementation of Treaty settlement commitments. This includes ensuring Treaty settlement commitments are understood, upheld, and reported on.
This is a collaborative position where you will be internally focused. You will be working with BNZ to provide engagement and partnership advice to support collaboration with iwi, hapu and whanau. As well as, building a strong working relationship with the Māori Partnershps and Investment business unit.
As part of this role, you will also manage the Treaty commitment data base and other treaty partnership information. Provide monthly reports on treaty commitment and partnership work. Collate information requests from MP&I to support Accord hui and other ministerial meetings. Providing expert advice to biosecurity responses to ensure manawhenua are adequately engaged and supported.
About you the ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, and a proven ability to forge effective and collaborative partnerships. You will draw on Māori culture to enrich your work by using tikanga Māori and te reo Māori principals to facilitate engagement processes and to effectively present information to different groups.
To be successful in this role, you will have strong understanding and experience of Treaty related issues and responsibilities and how these impact on the Biosecurity system. Understanding of design and delivery which demonstrates understanding of Te Ao Māori and Mātauranga Māori.
Aware of the elements of the customer experience and the ways in which policy and delivery can positively affect it. Understands and applies customer segmentation principles in developing engagement solutions.

About the team the Treaty Partnerships team lead, support and grow Māori capability, and support BNZ to be a good Treaty partner. With oversight of what BNZ does in the Treaty partnership and capability space, they ensure BNZ is joined in its efforts to support the Māori Crown relationship. You will be working within a small Wellington based team of 4, reporting to the Manager Treaty Partnerships and working alongside two Principal Advisers.
