Based in Herston, Brisbane and working in close collaboration with clinicians and other research institutes, QIMR Berghofer is home to more than 600 scientists, students and support staff. About the Tranlsational Cancer Immunotherapy Laboratory our group investigates the use of cellular immunotherapy approaches in cancer and bone marrow transplantation. We perform pre-clinical and clinical research in immunology and cell and gene therapy, with an emphasis on translating basic science into novel, clinically applicable therapeutics. Role purpose / responsibilities this is an exciting and unique opportunity to work in the field of cellular immunotherapy from pre-clinical development through to phase I clinical trial. Your primary responsibilities as a research assistant are to Work within the research laboratory, which includes clinical sample processing, cell culture, flow cytometry and molecular biology assays, train in good manufacturing practice (gmp) and perform cell processing in the gmp cleanroom facility, assist with the development and validation of new assays and technology platforms and day-to-day laboratory management and maintenance. You will have the opportunity to work across the spectrum of bench-to-bedside translation of novel cell and gene therapy. The position is focussed on two new gene-modified immunotherapies that are entering phase I clinical trials for bone marrow transplant and cancer patients. You will work both collaboratively and independently within a small team and contribute to other research. You will also need to work closely with the GMP facility and hospital. This is therefore a unique opportunity to train in the science, technology and clinical translation of cell and gene therapy. About you this position will suit an enthusiastic, self-driven, intellectually curious individual who is interested in bench-to-bedside translational research in cellular immunotherapy and bone marrow transplantation. The applicant will have a BSc with First Class Honours or equivalent, with a background in immunology or cell processing. Experience in human blood sample processing, aseptic technique and tissue culture is essential. Previous experience in flow cytometry and molecular biology is highly desirable. You will also be required to develop and troubleshoot new techniques and procedures. Good problem-solving, record-keeping and organising skills are essential. Meticulous work practice is essential. Although a majority of the work will be performed within the research laboratory, a component of the work will be performed within the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) cleanroom facility. As such, an ability to work independently, follow standard protocol and work within a confined space is necessary. Similarly, this role calls for flexible work hours from time-to-time to meet the demands of cell processing and clinical sampling. Remuneration the salary range is between $69,085 to $79,500 per annum plus super and salary packaging. This will be a full-time position for 12 months with the potential for renewal. A part-time position will be considered for suitable candidates.
