About the role the purpose of this position is to support a randomised controlled trial of a community training program to help community members recognise and respond to psychological distress and signs of suicide. This may include preparing a research protocol and ethics application, recruiting research participants, conducting literature searches, preparing and editing research projects reports and manuscripts, data coding and analysis, and general research support duties. Key responsibilities preparing a research protocol for a randomized controlled trial, assisting with ethics applications/amendments and responding to queries from the research ethics board, managing participant recruitment, maintaining archive of ethics forms and documents, undertaking literature reviews, maintain sensitivity to clinical issues, preparing and editing research and project reports, manuscripts and presentations, data entry, coding and analysis of quantitative data, liaising with the technology and education teams to establish and run the trial, perform general research and administrative tasks associated with the project, assist with the organisation and running of team meetings/teleconferences with internal/external stakeholders. Essential criteria bachelor’s degree (or above) in health sciences, social sciences or a relevant discipline, three (3) years’ experience in a similar role or equivalent, experience in preparing and submitting ethics applications, demonstrated experience undertaking literature searches and reviews, knowledge of quantitative research methods, experience in data collection and analysis, including use of statistical software (e.g. spss or sas), strong written and verbal communication skills, an ability to work both in a team and independently, with a high level of flexibility and initiative with minimal supervision, strong organisational skills with proven ability to meet deadlines, demonstrate effective time management and adapt to changing priorities, experience writing research reports and/or manuscripts. Desirable criteria experience working in a professional research environment, experience in the not for profit sector, experience in the mental health field/suicide prevention, experience in engaging with key internal and external stakeholders, knowledge of eeo/aa principles.
