Ranger Department of Conservation location Manawatu.

The Department of Conservation is seeking applicants for the position of Ranger, Community Kaitiaki, Ao Hapori based in Palmerston North. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a strong and hardworking team, and support conservation growth in the Manawatu District alongside our Treaty partners and community.

Core components of this role include planning and delivering engaging events and knowledge sharing initiatives to inspire, activate and enhance community involvement in conservation. Coordinating community-led conservation projects.

Supporting whanau, hapu and iwi in kaitiakitanga. Managing relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. Providing communications and media support to the Manawatu Operations District. Supporting the Manawatu Operations District to deliver high quality conservation outcomes.

The ideal applicant will have a tertiary qualification, or equivalent experience, in either communication and event management, community education and outreach, or project management. Be a team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Build positive working relationships across a broad range of public and private sector businesses and groups. Be organised and thorough, able to plan, deliver and assess complex projects. Be innovative, able to identify issues and opportunities then develop solutions. Hold a current full New Zealand Driver License.

Experience working with whanau, hapu and iwi and an understanding of te ao Maori me nga tikanga will be an advantage. This role has been identified as a Children's Worker position and will require you to undertake NZ Police Vetting under the Children's Act 2014. Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.
