The organisation st Vincent’s Medical Research Institute (SVI) is an independent institute that conducts the highest quality biomedical research into the cause, prevention, and treatment of common diseases such as cancer, heart disease, type 1 diabetes, obesity, bone disease and Alzheimer’s.

For over 60 years, SVI has taken on the challenge of fundamentally understanding and conquering these diseases to create better health outcomes for all Australians. Based in Fitzroy on the St Vincent’s Hospital campus, SVI has a dedicated team of 200 staff and students who are committed to improving the health and life expectancy of Australians through medical research.

The role we are seeking a part-time (3 days per week) Purchasing Officer. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this position will help to ensure that outcomes of research activities at SVI are optimised by ensuring the prompt ordering and supply of required laboratory equipment, consumables, chemicals, and other items as required and that the related administration supports a timely supply and replacement service.

Key Duties include assisting with processing procurement from order through to receipt, delivery, and processing of associated documentation. Following and enforcing the Institute’s procurement policies and procedures. Assisting it maintain accurate purchase and pricing records.

Assist with the inventory in the internal store including processing orders, replenishing stock, and assisting with regular monthly stocktakes when requested. Assisting with updating supplier information such as product ranges, contacts, delivery times etc.

Assisting to liase with external suppliers and internal stakeholders providing timely responses to queries. Who we are seeking  Our ideal candidate will have a basic understanding of scientific terminology. Proficient in use of the Microsoft office suite.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a client centred focus. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Initiative in problem solving. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Excellent attention to detail. Capacity for lifting and stacking stock items.
