Ark in the Park Programme Manager Forest and Bird location Auckland.
Forest & Bird began back in 1923. Since then we have been advocating and speaking out for nature on land, in the sea, and achieving community-based projects throughout New Zealand via our extensive network of volunteer branches.
The Ark in the Park is a collaborative community-based programme between Forest & Bird and the Auckland Council, supported by local iwi. It aims to enhance indigenous biodiversity and ecosystems within a 2278-hectare area of the Waitakere ranges. This programme has attracted over 900 supporters including 400 active volunteers who perform essential pest control, allowing for the reintroduction of many native species.
To be successful in this role you will have a strong background in environmental programme management and have proven experience in predator control programmes, native species monitoring, biosecurity management, and site hazard and risk control.
This programme of work will involve delivering and contributing to a 5-year plan and working closely with a community-based management committee, funders, sanctuary groups, and many key stakeholder groups, so your experience collaborating and navigating various stakeholders’ feedback and concerns, as well as great ideas and guidance, will be well placed.
You will prepare funding applications and need to report on progress against projected budgets so having a reasonable level of financial literacy and capability is advantageous. The Job Description is available on request and covers the business as usual requirements for this role.
You’ll bring with you most if not all of the following at least 5 years proven experience managing field conservation programmes, preferably in the Not for Profit or community-based environment. Experience working with volunteers, and a demonstrated understanding of the needs of volunteers and associated programmes. A high level of self-motivation and resilience.
Working knowledge of the Resource Management Act, Conservation Act. Working knowledge of Office 365, Content Management Systems, Outlook. A full NZ Driver License, and a Comprehensive First Aid Certificate. Our team culture reflects our values – Courage, Professionalism, and Collaboration. And you’ll thrive here if these values align with your own.
