Principal Quantity Surveyor Waka Kotahi location Auckland.
Seeking deep technical experience in cost estimation across complex projects. Project s ranging from $100 M - $1 Billion. This is Senior position within our Commercial Delivery team.
The opportunity we have an opportunity for a Principal Quantity Surveyor to join our Commercial Delivery team. Commercial Delivery provides policy, planning and operational support to facilitate the organisational and management objectives across our business. This ensures our business acumen is delivered to the highest level across a diverse range of programmes and we collaborate across Transport Services and other business divisions to do this.
As a lead member of our team, you will provide specialised capital project cost estimation on low to high-risk projects to ensure the planning and delivery phases of our projects provide value for money solutions and assurance to the project budget lifecycle.
About youit's a given that you'll bring a sound base of technical knowledge. We are looking for someone who can work closely across our project teams, partnerships, and key project stakeholders managing all commercial concepts, practices, and procedures from project commencement through to completion with a core focus on delivering increased cost performance and value for money outcomes on our projects ranging from $100M - $1B.
You will have a sound understanding of cost estimation processes including the identification and management of risk and opportunities and how they impact the contingency assessment and total cost of risk. We're looking for senior member of our team to join us, who is passionate, collaborative and motivated by the work as we are.
We're keen to meet with a Principal Quantity Surveyor who has extensive (15+years) experience in the cost estimation process within a complex built environment. Considerable experience in the civil infrastructure industry. Proven experience in first principles estimating with the ability to understand and consider construction methodology, staging, sequencing, and schedule requirements.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data. Proven track record with the identification of programme and project related risk and opportunity identification and management.
Strong professional relationship building skills across a range of stakeholders, ensuring project contractual conditions are fully understood in relation to commercial delivery. Experience leading the Quantitative Risk Analysis "QRA" process.
A high degree of literacy including the use of estimating software (Cost X, Candy). Good knowledge of procurement systems and supply chain processes to deliver infrastructure effectively and efficiently. Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with a range of stakeholders. Experience working within a programme environment in a large complex organisation, ideally in a commercial context.
Excellent communication skills. Strong negotiation, influencing and communication skills, including demonstrated ability to present compelling reports and recommendations for a variety of audiences. There is an expectation that role accountabilities will evolve naturally over time in line with changes in the external and/or internal environment (e.g. economic, systems, technical, government etc).
You may also be involved in other activities as part of an ongoing career and development plan. These will be considered in your performance and development goals that are set in discussion with your People Leader and recognised as appropriate through our performance pay process.
Qualifications Tertiary qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related field. Membership in NZIQS, AIQS, MRICS or equivalent
