The Northern Peninsula Area Regional Council’s mission is to support the provision of high standard local government services and economic growth of the Northern Peninsula Area through the sustainable use, development and management of land, water and native vegetation resources, whilst protecting the rights and interests of both the individual and the communities.

Northern Peninsula Area Regional Council is seeking an experienced Management Accountant to join the Executive Finance Team. Reporting to the Finance Manager, this position is responsible for the efficient and effective performance of all duties associated with preparation of budgets, budget reviews, monthly budget variance analysis and reporting, maintenance of the financial system including general ledger and other associated financial modules.

In this role you will have the opportunity to preparing, reviewing, analysing and reporting of all annual budgets for each work area of Council. Providing budget advice and recommendations on budgets to internal customers. Contributing to and playing a key role in implementation of best practice budgeting processes.

Maintaining accurate information in Council’s financial system and being the key contact for support and advice for the system. Preparing financial reports, including statutory reports, for internal customers and external agencies. Preparing reconciliations of subsidiary ledgers and other key general ledger accounts.

Undertaking other duties as required within the Finance team during periods of staff leave or peak workloads. Assisting with the implementation of new technologies and troubleshooting and assisting with the resolution of system issues that are impacting on financial data.

In return for your valued contribution, you will be rewarded with full-time 3 Year Term, $58,397 - $80,282 per annum, plus superannuation, 36.25 hours per week, 5 Weeks Annual Leave, 15 Days sick leave per annum, Cultural Learning and development opportunities, Employee Assistance Program.

The successful applicant will have relevant professional tertiary qualifications in Business, Accounting, Finance or Economics and/or significant experience in a similar role. Comprehensive knowledge of budget preparation, review, reporting and providing budget advice to internal customers. Strong understanding of accounting concepts and the application of Australian Accounting Standards.

Comprehensive understanding of corporate financial IT systems, including budget and internal management reporting. Well-developed personal competencies, including effective communication skills (written, verbal and non-verbal), ability to negotiate for outcomes, sound decision-making skills and demonstrated commitment to consultation and engagement. Current valid Driver’s Licence.

Desirable experience in the use of the Practical Computing System (PCS). Membership of a professional accounting body such as CPA, CA.
