About the Role
Are you an experienced legal professional with a strong background in commercial and corporate law? We invite you to apply for the Legal Counsel (Commercial & Corporate Advisory) position at the University, where you’ll play a key role in providing high-quality legal advice and support to the University’s leadership and departments.

Working closely with a supportive and collaborative team in the Legal, Risk and Compliance Division led by the General Counsel, you will be responsible for advising on a broad range of commercial and corporate matters. Reporting to the Director, Commercial and Corporate Legal Services, you will advise on goods and services agreements, IT contracts, property transactions, research, procurement, and transnational partnerships. You’ll also manage disputes, advise on corporate regulatory matters, and help the University navigate the complexities of public sector integrity and privacy issues and more.

In this role, you’ll support the continuous improvement of legal risk management practices, help implement best practices in contract management and support the adoption of innovative legal technologies that add value to the University.

About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:

Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality and solutions focused legal advice.
Strong problem-solving capabilities and able to take initiative when providing complex legal advice.
Proven skills and demonstrated ability to interpret and provide advice on legislation as well as internal and government policies.
Demonstrated ability to successfully manage a busy caseload with competing priorities and strong organisational skills.
5 years’ legal experience gained in private practice or in-house with a focus on commercial and corporate work. (Candidate with more experience is welcome to apply as well).

Qualifications
Australian legal practitioner within the meaning of the Legal Profession Uniform Law (Victoria)
