Learning Support Advisor Auckland Institute of Studies (AIS) location Auckland. $55,000 – $60,000 per year.

We are looking to appoint a Learning Support Advisor for our Learning Support Centre. to work 40 hours a week including weekends. The successful applicant will have a higher degree in a relevant discipline and will have successful experience in teaching and in working with students to improve their study skills.

Duties include provision of a diagnostic and advice service for students who are academically “at risk.” Working with administrative staff to ensure all students with poor performance are interviewed and supported where possible. Giving in-service instruction to teaching staff, to assist them in identifying “at risk” students and in giving front-line support.

Developing a diagnostic system for identifying the main contributing factors to academic failure both in a generic sense and in individual student cases. Developing an inventory of human resources (successful senior students) who are available to give effective assistance to students with specific learning needs, including training and supervising these senior students.

Developing and running “pursuit of excellence” type seminars for students who are not at risk of failure, but who need to be encouraged to raise their sights. Keeping up to date with the literature relevant to the field, disseminating relevant findings to teaching staff as appropriate, and contributing to research. Salary range $55,000pa to $60,000pa.
