About the role Tāmaki Makaurau Intelligence supports three Police districts to prevent and reduce crime and harm. Intelligence outputs are used to inform and drive the deployment of operational resources, enable an understanding of the criminal environment and facilitate evidence-based action.

We are looking to recruit a Lead Intelligence Analyst to join our team based in Ōtāhuhu, Auckland. This position would suit an experienced Intelligence professional wanting to work in a dynamic operational environment and support the development of Intelligence capability across the team and throughout New Zealand Police Intelligence.

As a Lead Intelligence Analyst, you will be expert in the use of a range of analytic tools and methodology to provide insight and foresight on complex problems and issues. You will communicate your analysis through reporting and drawing on your effective relationships with Intelligence clients.

You will use your advanced critical thinking and team-focused approach to coach others on best practice Intelligence tradecraft, to support team development and foster a positive and productive team culture.

As a critical and innovative thinker who is enthusiastic and personable, you will be able to develop high trust and effective working relationships with our people, our leaders, key stakeholders, and partner agencies. You will bring a positive mindset to the team and lead collaboration between teams to achieve shared outcomes.

Demonstrated experience in establishing and maintaining sustainable partnerships, for the benefit of all involved is essential. You will champion diverse worldviews, different perspectives, and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, identifying opportunities to reflect these in intelligence products.

You must be resilient to the work and organisational challenges presented in Police Intelligence and will need to be agile in your ability to shift priorities to meet demand.

Your engagement in your own professional development will see you to continue to develop your knowledge of policing. Your willingness to get out and talk to people, and critically and thoughtfully engage with what you find, will enhance your understanding of the required Intelligence contribution to ensure positive outcomes for Tāmaki Makaurau.

Key accountabilities use analytical expertise, critical thinking, and crime science theory to conduct analysis of complex crime problems and policing issues and propose potential solutions. Manage competing priorities and demands to deliver timely, relevant Intelligence and achieve results for the team.

Provide technical guidance in Intelligence analysis tools/methodology and coach Intelligence staff to develop their Intelligence tradecraft. Develop and maintain a wide range of positive relationships (internal and external).

Contribute to the development and implementation of plans, projects or initiatives. Work with limited supervision on complex analytical problems. Lead by example with a committed, positive attitude towards teamwork and professional development.

Extensive experience writing timely, clear, succinct, and useful intelligence products. Extensive experience using a variety of tools and techniques to understand a problem, develop solutions, and effectively influence and inform decision-making.

Extensive experience presenting complex issues clearly to a range of audiences (written and verbal). Extensive experience coaching, mentoring and leading individuals. Special Requirements New Zealand or Australian citizenship, or a permanent New Zealand resident.

Successful applicants must reside in wider Dunedin area. Hold the NZ Diploma in Intelligence Analysis (NZDIA) or equivalent or able to complete NZDIA modules early in employment. Hold a full driver license or be able to complete early in employment.

Candidates who progress to interview will complete further writing and scenario assessments to assess technical competence and may also be asked to complete psychometric testing including personality and cognitive reasoning assessments.
