Due to the retirement of a long serving staff member the role of part time Laboratory Technician has become available. The role is part of a dedicated small team who work in partnership with the teaching staff to provide safe, well researched and prepared practical classes to the science students at Sacré Cœur. The role will commence in the last two weeks of Term One 2020.

About the role working as a team, the Laboratory Technicians prepare and maintain the Laboratories and equipment in a safe and clean manner in keeping with OHS legislation, regulations and codes of practice.

Prepare risk assessments for activities and ensure apparatus and chemicals are prepared for demonstrations and practical classes. Research information relating to current topics of study to aid in effectiveness of the laboratories.

Essential Criteria (competencies, qualifications, knowledge and experience) Completion of a relevant Tertiary qualification in Science and appropriate work-related experience.  Knowledge and understanding of OHS requirements. Knowledge and understanding of the use of Hazardous substances, Risk Assessments and Safety Data Sheets.

Experience working in a science laboratory. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to be organised, plan and meet scheduled timelines. Good problem solving and trouble shooting skills. Excellent computer skills. Knowledge and understanding of current laboratory technician practices. Commitment to providing a Child Safe environment.

Desirable Criteria (competencies, qualifications, knowledge and experience) Experience working in a secondary school science laboratory. Familiarity with schools’ child-safe policies, code of conduct, and any other policies or procedures relating to child safety. Knowledge of latest developments in laboratory technician practices.
