Kaiako – Te Ara Reo Māori: He Pī Ka Pao (Level 1 and Level 2) Te Wānanga o Aotearoa location Northland.

About us as a proudly indigenous tertiary educator, ‘tauira success’ is our mission and ‘whānau transformation through education’ is our vision, guiding our commitment to delivering quality education programmes underpinned by Māori culture and values.

Our kaimahi (employees) enjoy a whānau-friendly workplace and a great range of benefits to support their wellbeing and that of their whānau free health and life insurance for permanent employees.

Four extra leave days each year to celebrate Matariki and Christmas, plus special leave available for those involved in cultural or sporting events. Flexible work hours and work-from-home options for some roles. Free car parking at our main campuses.

About this job we are looking for an experienced Kaiako to deliver our Te Ara Reo Māori programme using our Ako Whakatere methodology and techniques. This permanent, full-time role (37.5 hours per week) starts in January 2025.

Your role will include, but is not limited to, developing lesson plans, presenting material to tauira, addressing their needs, and assessing their progress. We encourage Kaiako delivering this programme to engage in rangahau (research) to enhance their teaching.

About you, you will be a confident conversational speaker of te reo Māori, possess a deep understanding of tikanga Māori, and be well-versed in teaching methods that inspire and motivate tauira who are beginning their journey in learning te reo Māori.

Ideally, applicants will have a Diploma in Te Reo Māori or higher. A New Zealand Certificate in Adult Tertiary Teaching (NZCATT Level 5) or equivalent, or be willing to complete it within the first year of employment. A National Certificate in Adult Literacy & Numeracy Education (NCALNE Level 5).

A full and current NZ driver’s license. As a kaupapa Māori organisation, your willingness to participate in cultural activities and develop an understanding of Āhuatanga Māori (values, culture and tikanga) will be key.
