Position summary Downer Rail a leading name in the manufacturing and maintenance of rolling stock across Australia has an exciting opportunity for a Junior Engineer to join our team in NSW – North Ryde. This is a full time fixed term opportunity and you will be part of a dedicated team working on the new Sydney Growth Trains. (SGT). The SGT project is being delivered by Downer as part of the NSW Government’s $1.5 billion ‘More Trains, More Services’ program. The new trains join the existing Waratah fleet, which continues to show exceptional performance in terms of reliability and availability.

The Waratah fleet is the pride of Sydney’s network, delivering unprecedented reliability, availability, safety and comfort. It is Australia’s largest single order of rolling stock. The Junior Engineer will provide support in the design and testing of ICT system hardware and software components. You will be assisting in the requirements definition and development of reference designs for new ICT systems to be implemented across Downer’s project portfolio.

About you meet the requirements of a Rail Safety worker. Degree qualifications – Computer Science, Electrical, Mechatronic Engineering Degree or similar Engineering Qualification recognised by Engineers Australia. Experience in rolling stock or Intelligent Transportation Systems design and operations desired but not required. Ability to read understand and trace electrical schematics.

Good oral and written communication skills, including ability to conduct investigations and provide written reports. Experience with Python, shell scripting, C/Java, Linux and IPv4 IP networking desirable. Ability to develop, nurture and maintain sound relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. Ability to actively listen and resolve conflict as well as support and encourage and motivate employees. Demonstrated leadership that strives towards the commitment to Zero Harm.
