AgriZeroNZ is a public-private joint venture that has been established as part of the New Zealand (NZ) Centre for Climate Impact, with the goal of reducing biogenic methane and nitrous oxide emissions. The partners of the JV are ANZCO Foods, Fonterra, Ravensdown, Silver Fern Farms, Synlait, Rabobank, Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI), ANZ, ASB and A2 Milk.

AgriZeroNZ have a $191m fund that will be used to undertake targeted investments to accelerate development and deployment of solutions that will be used by New Zealand farmers and others to significantly reduce farm emissions.

The Ventures function will invest both capital and capability into selected ventures, enabling them to be more successful in the NZ market and reach our farmers sooner. Investments will directly link to emissions reduction, either by increasing scale of impact or accelerating time to impact.

Reporting to the Head of Ventures, you will play a crucial role in identifying, evaluating, and executing investment opportunities in early-stage ventures. You will be responsible for managing a portfolio of investments, conducting due diligence, and providing strategic guidance to portfolio companies. This position requires a combination of financial acumen, strategic thinking, and entrepreneurial mindset.

Key responsibilities identify and source potential investment opportunities through various channels, including networking, industry events, and partnerships. Conduct thorough due diligence on potential investments, including market analysis, financial modelling, and risk assessment.

Participate in negotiations and structuring of investment deals, including equity investments, convertible notes, and other financing instruments. Work closely with legal and financial teams to ensure smooth transaction execution and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Develop investment memos and presentations for internal stakeholders and investment committees. Monitor and manage a portfolio of investments, tracking performance, and actively engaging with portfolio companies to provide strategic guidance and support.

Conduct regular portfolio reviews and assessments to identify opportunities for value creation and risk mitigation. Represent the firm at industry events, conferences, and networking forums to enhance the firm's visibility and access to deal flow.

Cultivate a strong network of co-investors and strategic partners to leverage resources and expertise for portfolio companies. Collaborate with portfolio company management teams to address key challenges and capitalize on growth opportunities. Build and maintain relationships with founders, co-investors, and industry stakeholders to stay informed about emerging trends and opportunities.

Your background at least 5-10 years of post-qualification experience, with a background in venture capital, ideally from an investment firm or start up perspective. Strong financial analysis skills, including proficiency in financial modelling, valuation techniques, and investment analysis.

Deep understanding of early-stage venture investing dynamics, including market trends, deal structures, and startup ecosystem. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for innovation and technology, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously. Candidates will require a tertiary qualification in commerce/finance and/or law and ideally other external qualifications, e.g. CFA.
