The Toi Tū Toi Ora Kaiarahi are a key part of Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki’s Visitor Experience team supporting the Public Programme and Learning teams to deliver exceptional visitor experiences for Māori and for culturally diverse audiences.  Reporting to the Visitor Experience Team Leaders these roles will be responsible for delivering tours from a Te Ao Māori perspective including Te Reo tours of our Toi Tū Toi Ora Contemporary Māori Art exhibition.

Central to the role’s function is to be a kaitiaki of the Toi Tū Toi Ora exhibition, responsible for providing manaakitanga to groups visiting the Gallery and general visitors to the exhibition, ensuring that the Gallery’s mana is carried through the visitor experience and that our taonga are respected and protected. Kaiarahi will be responsible for delivering tours and other specific Toi Tū Toi Ora experiences, in particular supporting Māori Medium Education tours.

About you will be an engaging communicator and be fluent or a strong conversationalist in te reo along with being skilled at connecting with a diverse range of audiences.  You will have experience in delivering excellent customer service and be confident in addressing large groups of people, including education groups, and the ability to relate to and engage a broad range of visitors. You will love sharing your enthusiasm for Te Ao Māori and art with others, thrive on working as part of a team and enjoy the environment of the Auckland Art Gallery.

To secure one of these highly sought-after roles you ideally will have be fluent or a strong conversationalist in te reo. An understanding of and commitment to the principles of Treaty of Waitangi and biculturalism as they relate to the Gallery and its activities. Sound knowledge of tikanga and appropriate cultural protocols relevant to the role. Passionate and knowledgeable about visual arts.

These roles are part time fixed term positions June 2021. You will need to be available for work on at least 3 days per week, including one weekend day. The hours are not fixed and will vary across 7 days and evenings based on your availability week to week.
