As the steward of the early childhood development system, the Office will act on the government's behalf, and work in collaboration with the sector, to organise and connect the system to reduce developmental vulnerability. This includes strategy for the provision of quality preschool for all 3 and 4-year-olds, supporting families in the first 1000 days of a child’s life and implementing a workforce strategy.

About the role the Finance Officer provides key support to the Senior Management Accountant by delivering high-quality financial and budgetary services to inform strategic decision making. This role is responsible for facilitating efficient and effective financial management processes. The position ensures full compliance with all relevant legislative and financial reporting requirements, by upholding regulatory standards and ensuring that all financial activities and accurate to meet statutory obligations.

In this role, you will coordinate and maintain divisional budgets including workforce caps / FTEs including the development of monthly expenditure budgets, budget periodization, variance analysis and projections, and journals. Assist with the preparation of periodic financial reports and analysis including monthly financial reports to Executives and the Department of Treasury and Finance Review. Assist with the drafting and maintenance of financial policies and procedures for the agency.

About you as an established Finance Officer, you bring a blend of financial expertise and accounting knowledge in budgetary management, variance analysis, financial reporting, and projections, within government settings.

Your experience working within financial systems, with a strong emphasis on South Australian public sector practices makes you a confident Officer with a strong capability to complete tasks autonomously and effectively. Your initiative, critical thinking skills and experience enables you investigate and resolve complex financial problems. With strong organisational and time management skills, you effectively handle high workloads and competing priorities.

To be successful in these roles, you'll bring essential experience in financial and budgetary management, including the development of budgets, variance analysis, financial projections, and preparation of financial reports. Sound knowledge of accounting principles and processes, and experience with financial systems, preferable within the South Australian public sector.

Proven organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage high volumes of work with competing demands with the utmost attention to detail. Completed or studying towards a tertiary qualification in finance/accounting (desirable).

Additional note this is a full-time short term contract role (1.0 FTE) until 30 June 2025 with potential for extension. Remuneration ASO4 $76,561 – $80,256 (1.0 FTE), plus superannuation.
