The Catholic Diocese of Townsville was established in 1930 and it covers an area extending from Townsville, to the Whitsunday and Burdekin regions, to Ingham and Halifax, Winton and encompassing Mount Isa and several small, isolated western towns.

The Catholic Diocese of Townsville is seeking applications for a Finance Officer working 37.5 hours per week on a full time permanent basis located at our Townsville Office. This position is Monday to Friday working 8:30 am to 5:00pm. The primary function of this role is to assist the Diocesan Accountant with the smooth running of the day to day functions, including provision of accounting support.

Duties include but are not limited to assist with the daily functions of the DDF including start, finish, afternoon banking, planned giving, batch uploads, setting up new DDF users and various other daily functions. Facilitate the provision of DDF information to stakeholder using various software such as Ultracs, People and Relationships (P & R) and BDS Banking.

Undertake reporting and functions of Ultacs and other accounting software, extract data for further analysis in excel spreadsheets. Process and prepare financial data for parishes, including accounts payable accounts receivable, bank reconciliations and financial accounts. Assist in Diocesan, DDF and Parish budget preparations.

Assist in monitoring of financial controls and systems and advise managers of issues or potential improvements to financial functions or processes. Prepare Finance procedures including the process of continuous improvement. Participate in ongoing professional development including the attendance of at least one annual conference in Melbourne for 3 days.

Assist in  processing of accounts payable invoices and credit card transactions as and when required. Provide assistance in all other areas of the business as and when required, including backup support for the team. Under the direction of the Diocesan Accountant, prepare and lodge BAS for various Diocesan entities. Under the direction of the Diocesan Accountant support Parishes in their financial responsibilities.

Requirements degree in Business/Finance (preferred). Demonstrated (minimum 2 years) experience in a similar role with particular emphasis on financial management and customer service. Experience with finance related software. Experience working in a team environment,  including the ability to give and receive training when required.

High level of computer literacy including the Microsoft and Google suites specifically excel. Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy. Strong organisational and time management skills to prioritise workloads, meet deadlines and use initiative.

Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality in all areas of work. Paid Working With Children Check. Ability to pass a National Criminal History Check. Drivers Licence. This position offers a base salary range of $69,686 - $77,395 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications. This amount does not include annual leave loading or superannuation which is paid in addition.
