About our group and team the Early Learning and Student Achievement (ELSA) group is a key part of the Ministry, with over 300 staff. It sets system-level learning standards and supports education leaders to lift progress and achievement for all children and young people. The group achieves this by advising on New Zealand's curricula, the provision of personalised learning pathways, and a quality and sustainable education workforce.

The Education Workforce team supports the sector to build a workforce that has the capability and capacity to deliver high quality practice and can support innovation across the system to lift student achievement. This includes areas such as Teacher Supply, Scholarships and Awards and Employment Relations, including collective bargaining and pay equity.

About this role we're looking for a highly experienced Executive Assistant to support to our Associate Deputy Secretary. This role acts as a trusted advisor and requires a person with sound judgment who can make decisions on behalf of the Associate Deputy Secretary when required.

The role entails full executive management support such as diary and workflow management, advice, administrative and planning support. As part of the Education Workforce Leadership team, you will join a group of highly capable and supportive colleagues who are actively contributing to the future of tamariki throughout New Zealand. This role performs a wide variety of at times complex administration, coordination and responsibilities, which requires considerable confidentiality, initiative, tact and independent judgment.

About you will have proven significant experience relative to the role, ideally within the public sector. You will be an experienced, confident and competent EA who knows what it takes to support a senior leader. It's important to us that you're comfortable working autonomously in an ambiguous environment and that you can meet the demands of this role with your ability to make sound decisions on behalf of the Associate Deputy Secretary.

You will also offer the following excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to calmly and effectively address complex situations. Ability to deal with ambiguity and maintain resilience in a constantly changing environment. Ability to prioritise work, make proactive decisions and apply good judgement. Attention to detail and excellent time management and organisational skills. The ability to build and maintain strong relationships across a diverse group of contacts. The ability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangatawhenuatanga.
